Remind me... It is a good thing or a bad thing when randos keep coming at you with guns? I think it might be a bad thing...?
While the national news media has been fixated by that latest debacle, locally my corner of California is a bit more concerned by a potential environmental catastrophe. By the time you read this, hopefully the tank has finally blown up or cracked open.
A tank at an aerospace company is leaking methyl methacrylate, a volatile and flammable liquid used to make acrylic plastics. This links to the story in the picture. The good news is I'm not in the evacuation zone. The bad news is if this thing does explode, I'll definitely feel the after effects.
As for the rest of the country, our primary election is June 2nd (which I need to sit down and get my ballot filled out. We get mail in ballots, and I've had mine for almost a month now).
When the Speaker of the House admits on right-wing TV that losing the midterms would end Trump's presidency... that's not a warning. That's a TO-DO LIST. Challenge accepted.

haha...you know I avoid political talk and religious talk when blogging or any type of social media cause those two item can spark the worst comments and behavior from folks. But, I know Trump stepped into a mess when gaining office again and there is I am sure I lot to fix and straighten out, but with that said, I don't care for the man, I go into a cold sweat just hearing his cry baby type voice. So, lost of midterms, well, you know already how I feel about that.

ReplyDeleteI've been hearing about the potential boom, how scary! I hope they figure that out and quick. I have my ballot sitting here as well, I wish I felt more excited about it.
ReplyDeleteGot mine done yesterday, so have to send that off today. This morning they're saying that the potential for whatever they're calling an explosion has decreased dramatically as there seems to be a crack in the tank, so they're able to cool the chemical and relieve some of the pressure. It's still not going to end well, but at least we're not looking at a cloud of chemical fog (which is what they were saying could happen on Saturday).

ReplyDeleteYes, we heard about the Garden Grove situation all the way on the other end of the country. Was it Friday when somebody said that it was inevitable that the tank would blow? As for the political part of the post, even if this happened, I don’t think we’ve seen the end of MAGA. Rachel Maddow talks about Earth one and Earth two and judging from the people, I know, There are those who no longer support Trump, but it doesn’t mean that they still don’t have their base beliefs.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard about it on Friday, it was boom or cracked open, and cracked open was preferable. But I didn't hear about it until Friday after work. (Luckily I don't work for the Garden Grove school district. They were the only ones that closed.)

DeleteThe things companies do to us that most people don't think about is simply staggering. We have a huge natural gas tank about 5 miles away. My husband, when he was a battalion chief with the fire department, attended a meeting where he was told if it caught fire, the next living things he would see would be 20 miles down the road. Like in the next county. Imagine a blast of natural gas that would take out everything in a 20-mile radius. That's a lot of people. And I wouldn't know that if I weren't married to a fireman.
ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone knew what was in that tank before this weekend. I grew up in Anaheim (which borders Garden Grove), and this is eh first I'm hearing of it.

ReplyDeleteMy primary was last week, and we are 100% mail-in. Which need not be actual mailing of course, there are ballot boxes to drop the in. I mailed mine for the primary, not much on it. I use ballot boxes in general elections, to make sure there aren't any "delays" in postmarking! It's funny to look at the political map, my neighborhood is pale pink, yet a block away is dark pink. It's the bigger cities that count, they're blue!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading about that tank. I used to live near the Shell Oil refinery in Martinez, and there were scares now and then. Of course, I was closer to the Naval Weapons Station, and if that were hit... well, it's like in the movie War Games, better to be within the blast (or whatever) zone than to survive! Now we have the pressure releases at the mill, and those are frightening in their loudness. I guess there would be explosions if they didn't let off pressure once in a while.

ReplyDeleteI guess a tank of chemicals (white liquor) imploded at the pulp and paper mill in Longview WA today. Horrendous. 1 dead 9 missing and another 9 badly burned. Longview isn't that big. I heard the tank down there, now they're hoping the chemicals inside will solidify. I hope so too.

DeleteI heard there was a tanker that might explode all the way in Oz! I had no idea it was near you or any of the details. I'm glad it looks like the real danger is over (although it doesn't sound good if it's leaking a highly volatile chemical)
