Tracked

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

I was on a plane for half the day yesterday. (I'm writing this post before I leave.) If I got behind on visiting while I was away, I'll catch up in the next day or two.

So, because I'm writing this more than a week ahead, current events are off the table...

What if everyone was required to wear a device that the government could use to track you? (Alas, I wish this was far-fetched...)

  1. I’m sure you will hear a lot of outrage on this topic, but we have all voluntarily agreed to being tracked …with our cell phones, Fitbits, using GPS in our cars … but the government actually making lists scares me

    1. Yes, of course. That's why I asked about if it was required rather than "voluntary". (I know many people don't really think about all the tracking that goes on.)

  2. Yeah, agree with songbird - we're already there. Cameras everywhere.

  3. Not required (yet), but, yeah, cel phone. I was just talking to my wife that, in the not so distant past, it was possible to disappear completely. Now? Not so much.

  4. Yes, we're tracked, even the grocery store app knows what to suggest. I hope there'd be a mass uprising against any government tracking with something worn. I wonder what the punishments would be for refusing?

  5. We mostly do - it's called a cell phone.

  6. Screw that! Even though I have a cell phone i can turn it off and not use it. I never post where I am on Facebook. I might post where I was but never a play by play. If I wanted to disappear, I would make sure to have money and not use a card

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
