Throwing Money at the Problem

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

The other day I saw a post on social media that made me stop and think about vast wealth. Because, seriously, people who have billions of dollars wouldn't miss one of those billions. And it would solve so many problems...

What if billionaires donated money to make the world a better place? What sort of problems could that much money solve?

  1. Hmm, I think that's a really good question and honestly one I think of often. I love to do things for people and give things to people. If I had all the money like they do I feel like I'd go broke trying to help others and give gifts to others. Maybe not a problem, maybe a problem. Lol

  2. No more hunger, no more homelessness, universal healthcare. That’s where I’d start.

  3. I agree with others. There would be no more homeless, no hunger.

  4. Some of them do. Then people complain they don't give enough, or they don't like the organizations donated to. Or, that the money should go to help on those in the same country, let the others suffer. I don't think even their billions would be more than a drop in the bucket in solving the big issues. All the money you could want won't help get food to the hungry when governments don't cooperate, or organized gangs steal it. I don't think we should expect the billionaires to fund a lot of things our governments should be taking care of. Songbird mentions universal health care. I think it should go without saying a government should want it's citizens to be healthy! After all, they would work more, pay more taxes!

  5. This is Birgit….Happy New Year!! I believe more animals would live and the climate issues. I think more homeless would have homes but greed is always there..greed for power…sadly. Thankfully, some do give large amounts and do help.

  6. I have to wonder if billionaires do donate, how do they? Can you trust charities on the ground? Do they have to form a foundation and then what about dishonesty along the line? Gangs? Corrupt governments that want their take? (Even here in the United States). I'm not sure it would work, as nice as it sounds.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
