Extinction Burst

I can't even anymore. Rather than list all the current atrocities (which will be out of date by the time you read this), I'm going to share a bit of hope that ran across my timeline this week.

The video is from May, and we're still in the thick of it, but it's something I have heard in different contexts throughout my lifetime. I hope he's right. (I hope the video works. If not, you can find it here.)

I found (via Knitty) a pattern that all the proceeds of which are going to those impacted by the ICE raids. Melt the ICE Hat. It's a protest hat. Anyone want one?

For those of us not in Minnesota, here's a blog post about ways we can help them.

  1. Bottom line, use your voice in protest, let your outrage be heard.

    1. I wanted to post it last week, but I didn't find it until now.

  3. Thanks for the link to help, Liz. I have a friend in Minnesota and hers is an immigrant family. Not online friend but a friend I met in person and we spent time together touring Europe few years back. I'm so scared for her and her two daughters now. Whenever I see news, I message her to ask if she's okay. It's all so sad.

  4. Here is a link for the crocheters https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/melt-the-ice-crochet-version Also, the history of the hat is interesting too. The Norwegian's made them to protest the Nazis occupation of their country. - This is a great post Liz. Thank you so much. I reposted the video too because we all need a sliver of hope in these dark times. - Have you heard any feedback about how children are dealing with these times? It's got to be scary and confusing for them.

    1. Yeah, the Knitty post gave the history of the pattern. I could have written the whole blog post about it, but the post was long enough already.

  5. I had to go to Facebook to view the video but you don't have to belong to Facebook to view it (at least, I didn't have any trouble and I'm not signed in on my laptop). I am really torn about buying the pattern so I can crochet it. I signed into my Ravelry account (thank you, Magical Mystical Mimi, for finding the crochet version) and the comments indicate it requires a lot of patience (which I don't have in my current situation as a caregiver), that there are a lot of errors in the pattern, etc. But then again, it's a $5.00 contribution to a cause. I've only visited Minneapolis once, an overnight stay to visit someone who no longer lives there, but I remember what a lovely city it was. My heart has been breaking.

    1. I wondered if the video would play. I bought another pattern for another issue a few years back and didn't knit it right away. I eventually got to it, though. It's something you might want later. Just sayin'...

  7. Thank you for the links. I've seen that video, too, and hope it's true. It does make sense.
Are you making the hats? Or do you know of anyone who is? I can't knit, but I would love to buy a hat if someone is donating part of the money to a good cause.

    1. There's a crochet version. Magical Mystical Mimi posted the link in her comment. (I don't have time to knit the hats now. Maybe once I finish nephew's sweater.)

    1. I think there are more of us. It's just that the rest of them have the big money behind them.

  9. I don't see the excessive anger around here very much outside of some nasty facebook comments but I know some of those people and in person they're pretty decent.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
