Whoops

11th grade U.S. history. The teacher had found several video clips on YouTube that showed what life was like at the turn of the Twentieth Century. She left shortcuts on the main screen of her laptop, and everything was plugged in and ready to go.

In preparation, I opened each video in a new tab. And then... I shut the laptop...

...thus engaging the automatic lock.

Did I mention that the computer was logged in under the teacher's name? With a password I did not have.

I realized the stupidity of closing the laptop the instant after I did it.

(Why did I close the laptop? I'm not sure. I think I was trying to engage the blank screen. But who knows? I think I'll blame it on the cold I was coming down with.)

At least I had the brains to do this right before the prep period the period before I needed the videos. So, I had time to piece something together.

Some days I have it all together. And then other days I'm the stupid sub who screws it all up.

  1. Don't beat yourself up too much about it; things like this happen. Its like years ago when hubby had a motorcycle and I was riding on the back of it, he said when we got to a stop light, "don't put your feet down." I knew better, but I put my feet down and the bike tipped over. We weren't hurt (except my pride).

  2. we all do things that make us shake our head so betty is right, don't beat yourself up. maybe something is in the air. Yesterday i got 2 clients mixed up-same first name, same first 2 initials of their last name and their situation was very similar but I was giving wrong information to the one and mixing them up. I felt badly but glad they were aok with it.

    1. If I felt too bad about it, I wouldn't have posted it. I can only take so much public humiliation.

  3. Oh no. There's nothing worse than realising you've made a mistake, the second after you make it.

At least you had some time to get it sorted out. :-)

  4. Sometimes you just do things automatically and THEN remember the consequences. Too bad there wasn't another login you could use. That would have been convenient.

  5. I hit enter on an Amazon purchase yesterday even though I KNEW I was supposed to correct the presumptive payment. Of course I didn't. I knew it right away too.

    1. And it's always the second after you've done it that realization strikes.

    1. Thanks. I took it easy over the weekend and that helped a lot.

  7. OH NO! And I suppose the teachers can't leave their lock codes behind? They need a better way! I worked in I.T. and I know how easily someone can get locked out of a computer.

    1. Usually, when a teacher leaves something on their laptop, they do leave their password. I guess this teacher thought that since she didn't log off...

  8. That's exactly how I have been feeling. So go ahead and blame it on the cold!

  9. Hi Liz - so easy to do ... sad you had that extra homework for yourself though ... still that teacher wouldn't have to think about her next lesson. Enjoy the weekend ... cheers Hilary

  10. Oh oops! What a bad system, though, if you're having subs come in and out now and again.

  11. Do NOT consider or call yourself stupid. I do the same sometimes, but then some friend gets on me for the practice. You probably were mentally affected by the oncoming illness. I hope you feel great today!

    1. Thanks. I'm feeling... well, mostly better. It's been a weird sort of head week.
