English Vocabulary Size Test

My sister-in-law posted this one to Facebook, and I had to try.

Online English Vocabulary Size Test

And I got...

...because I cheated. Yup. I looked up a couple words. (Although, it was only, like, three. I knew the rest of them. Really, I did. Without cheating I got 23,550.)

How did you do? And did you cheat? Or is that just me?

  1. Well, I didn't cheat and I got 22,500 ...I'm ok with that. I have a feeling many will be higher since they are writers

  2. I got the same score you did--30,150. I did look up one word--but I was right about it so does that count or not?

  3. I got 22,500 without cheating. I guess that's pretty good, since it's in the top 5.83 %

    1. Yes. (I'm just a perfectionist on silly online quizzes.)

  4. I actually already took this (I was thinking of posting it on my blog, too). But I didn't remember my score so I took it again. I got 29995 (no peeking), so not bad. Actually, really good but I mean not bad compared to the other reader/writers here :)

  5. 22,500 for me as well, odd that quite a few of us got the same exact number lol! Didn't cheat :)

    1. I think each right answer corresponds to some number in the thousands of words. So, everyone probably got the same questions right.

  6. I had resisted this quiz but you made me look. I didn't cheat and I got 30,150. Some were so easy - some really made me think! English was never my best subject so I'm amazed. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. Was it that long? I guess we only really have the attention span for 10 questions, eh?

  10. 21,900 without cheating. But I did do a bit of guessing with some of those words.

  15. Started it but easily got distracted and cicked away. But knowing me, I would probably have cheated in the end :)

  17. Comment-leaving take two! I scored 22,950. There were some words (jejune, anyone?) that were definitely beyond my ken!

    1. Jejune is from French. The only reason I knew it.

  18. Liz, Well, aren't you special! lol This was a challenge, but I did better than I thought at 22,325 as a professional white collar and I cheated on a word or two, as well did some guessing. I'm not a big reader and was stumped on some of the words. Great fun. Thanks for sharing the quiz! :)

  19. I didn't do quite as well as all of the other commenters. 10,000. That's depressing. I could be in one of your classes (vocab level of a 14 year old). ;) Guess I need to work on it! Read more books ftw?
