New Supervillain

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements ;)

What if you discovered you had a superpower, but it was evil? (By "evil", I mean something that caused destruction or harm to others without a discernable upside.)

  1. I guess then I would cross over to 'the other side'. LOL

  2. Like the ability to see through clothing? In the right place, I could live with that. (Although not at our beaches - that would be frightening.)

  3. I wouldn't use it. Or I'd trade it in for a good super power. :)

  4. I think I can be counted upon to be morally responsible, for the most part.

  5. People better start making sure not to make me angry.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't be given powers.

  6. I think I'd see how to get rid of it; wouldn't suit my character very much I think!

    1. That's the problem, isn't it? If you're a good person but you get a bad power...

  8. Could a power really be evil? I think it's what we do with that power that would make it evil...If I had a power to cause harm or destroy things, I would use it against evil. Not good.

    1. Well, that's a good question. Does every power have an upside somewhere? The trick would be in finding it.

  9. What could be classified as evil??? lol...hmmmm can we not want it? Can we give it back? This is a tricky one because I could possibly use this power and be a vigilante

  10. I agree with several of your other commenters. Not sure any superpower could be evil, unless it affects the hero's mind. Rather, I think of superpowers as something like fire - no good and evil in its existence, only in how it is used. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. But if someone only had the power to kill, for example? Yes, there might be a positive use for it, but I was trying to come up with something that wouldn't have an upside.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
