Alien Visitors?

My Thursday posts consist of random questions. The only purpose of these is to generate story ideas. I'm not sure where this idea came from, but make of it what you will:

What if intelligent alien life has found us and is visiting us, but we can't perceive it (because the aliens are too small, too large, too fast, or otherwise outside our limits of perception)?

  1. Oh. Good one.

I'm sitting in my office thinking "What if there's an alien right here? Behind me? Is he friendly? Is he a he? An it? What's he doing? What does he want?"

Maybe they feed off our energy, so that those days when you feel tired or sad or down for no reason there's an alien near you, sucking the energy from you.

Maybe they just interact with us obliquely, with us not knowing, the way our bacteria inhabit us and we don't care about them at all, except we couldn't live without them? The mysterious things that we can't explain, like when we're sure we put our keys on the counter but they are on my dresser now might be aliens messing around, even unconsciously?

Maybe some animals are aliens. Maybe bugs are. Ants could be aliens and we don't pay them any attention because they seem like ants.

Great. I'm not getting any work done anymore today.

  2. That's a cool idea. Honestly, aliens we can't perceive sounds more plausible than gray aliens with black eyes abducting people.

It would make me wonder why they came here in the first place and if they can (or even would) influence us. What are you up to, aliens?

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
